"I came to Lenexa Strength and Fitness because I was tired of not seeing myself in pictures with my kids. I would never allow myself to be photographed because of the way I looked. I came to this realization when I was going through family photos...I was nowhere to be seen. My kids will have no pictures of themselves with their mom in the earliest part of their lives because of the way I felt about myself. I have since made a commitment that I will no longer let life's precious memories pass me by because of my own insecurities. I prayed and asked God to help me overcome what was on the inside, and I committed to do what needed to be done on the outside. And so my journey began...

"I have been working out faithfully with Rhonda for almost 12 months now. I began changing my eating habits about 10 months ago. Since then, I have lost over 55 lbs. and over 38 inches, and am still going strong! Through this process, I have gained an entirely new outlook on my personal health, realizing that...

  • My health directly affects those that I love the most.
  • My health is a direct reflection of my self worth.
  • My health is a gift from God. I need to appreciate and take responsibility for that gift every single day of my life."

Key lifestyle changes that have contributed to her success:

  • I make exercise (strength training and cardio) and healthy eating habits a priority.
  • I rarely eat after 7:00 p.m.
  • I refuse to drink my calories (sodas, shakes, etc.)
  • I don't keep things in the house on a consistent basis that might tempt me (chocolate, chocolate, ice cream, chocolate.....).
  • I try to get at least 30 grams of fiber in my diet daily (Fiber One rocks!).
  • I try to get at least 7 - 8 hours of sleep per night. This can be tough at times, but it really makes a difference in my weight loss."

Favorite experiences along the way:

  • Going from not being able to even run 1/4 of a mile at first, to being able to run 2 miles straight.
  • Going from hating to shop for clothes, to going every chance I get.
  • People asking me what my secret is and being able to say, 'Exercise and healthy eating habits.'
  • God's grace--I can't say this enough!
  • Interacting with my kids in physical activities and teaching them the importance of healthy choices.
  • Getting RESULTS!!!"

Dannetta's tips for those beginning their own journey on the road to a healthy lifestyle:

  • Faithfully following a healthy nutrition and exercise program for at least 2 months has the power to completely change your life!
  • Making a commitment and sticking to it is empowering!
  • Be faithful in even the small things--you really will get you the results you want.
  • Don't deprive yourself--rather, set limits.
  • When you hit a plateau, make some adjustments, keep on pushing, and don't give up!
  • Give 110% at your workout, or go home.
  • There is and will always be an excuse not to exercise or eat right. Choose not to be the result of an excuse.

"The bottom line is, I was the only thing that kept me from succeeding in the past.  It takes time, it takes planning, it takes determination, but it is SO worth it. There is nothing like knowing that I am someone I can be proud of on the inside and out. God bless your journey..."

"I knew they were getting stronger but didn't realize how much until I tried to lift a heavy piece of furniture the other day. I tried to lift my end of the china cabinet up off the floor, but quit when I was sure I would either injure myself or end up with it on top of me. After Sam got home from school, he and my husband went to move it, and I told them to wait so I could go help Sam with his side. Before I could get leverage on it, Sam had pressed the thing up over his head and was standing there smiling at me. Wow! Well done to all of you!
